Description: Photographic portrait of T. J. Rome, who owned a bootshop in Liebig Street, Warrnambool. Thomas Rome made the earliest surviving Australian sound recording in 1896 at the Warrnambool Industrial and Art Exhibition, using the first of Edison’s spring motor phonographs.
