Description: Postcard Sepia postcard Little loco; timber tramway; Rubicon Alexandra and District Historical Society Printed on verso: 'THE LITTLE LOCO' was the first Australian Diesel Locomotive. Built by Kelly & Lewis. Springvale. Vic.. in 1935. it ran daily with sawn timber from the sawmills of the Rubicon Ranges. The timber. taken out by horse-drawn bogies on wooden-railed tramways to The Tin Hut (Rubicon). was transferred to 'The Little Loco.' which brought the loads to the Alexandra railhead. along 13 miles of 2' gauge tramway. From its opening in 1912 to 1935. three small steam engines worked the tramway. which finally closed in 1948. Donated by Ruoak Timbers Pty. Ltd. Illustration courtesy 'Alexandra & Eildon Standard.'
