Description: Photograph The hospital has served the district from 1871. In the foreground is the Jubilee wing with the operating theatre and the women's ward beyond. Hospital Sundays were to raise money. with a band playing while teas were served . Babies born in the area around the turn of the century were often born at home or later at Kia Ora Private Hospital in Station St (extant) or at the home of the matron. Granny Milroy who lived just below the hospital in Villeneuve Street. The original hospital burnt down in 1957. Alexandra (Vic.) -- History.
