Description: Named St. George's by its builder, Mr. Alfred Watson (Messrs. William Watson and Sons, of Flinders Lane, the first firm of soft goods traders in Melbourne). It comprised twenty acres of land. Portion of the estate was left in its wild state, emus and other Australian fauna were kept there. Mr. Watson died at sea on the voyage to England, and the property was purchased by Mr. Joseph Clarke. Picture shows original building, a few shrubs in the foreground.
