Description: Sepia-toned photo looking south down Chapel Street, probably from the town hall clock tower. Mounted on brown card, with the brown line border characteristic of Burman's work. The photo is broken in two, but the actual image is quite clear. Afixed to the mount is a sticker giving the names of councillors for 1897-8, along with basic municipal statistics. The photo however is earlier than this: St Matthew's Church of England on High Street dates the image as later than 1878, but the absence of tram lines on Chapel Street means that the photo was taken before Oct 1888 (Wilde p.8)
