Description: A photographic portrait of Mr Joseph Crook, who claimed to have built the first house in Chapel Street in 1849 (refer Cooper (1924) p.100). Mr Crook was for many years the best known architect within the City of Prahran. He settled in Prahran in 1849, and was also a member of the party who discovered the Eaglehawk goldfields (see Cooper (1924) for account given by J. Crook of his early days in the colony). He died in September 1905.
