Description: Bear's Castle is situated in Yan Yean Reserve. It was constructed during the late 1840s on the pastorial run of John Bear. It is constructed of layers of mud on a masonry plinth. Its may have been designed as a fortress against infiltration by aborigines and bushrangers. It is one of the oldest buildings still standing in the City of Whittlesea and is classified by the National Trust to be of national significance.
