Description: Size: 166 x 213 mm A view across the Darling Gardens in Clifton Hill to the expanse of Collingwood. The park is fairly bare but there are some young trees on the south side and a number of new trees have been planted and are protected by picket enclosures. A picket fence runs around the park and the rotunda stands at its centre. Paths are edged with rocks. There is a large crowd of people including many children and it seems likely that this photo was taken on the occasion of the tree-planting ceremony by Lady Peacock in 1907. (See photo 180). The houses in South Terrace can be seen clearly (all with striped verandahs). Beyond them can be seen (looking from left to right) Victoria Park railway station, Whybrow's shoe factory in Stafford Street, the Town Hall, Vere Street primary school, the Yorkshire Brewery and the shot tower with a smaller, square chimney beside it.
