Description: Size: 107 x 154 mm The council nursery, located on or near the south-east corner of Nicholson Street and Marine Parade, Abbotsford. There are rows of flowers including canna lilies, staked chrysanthemums and dahlias, kniphofias and delphiniums. The same man who can be seen in photo 14 stands near one of a group of seedling houses, holding a watering can and to modern eyes rather formally dressed for gardening in shirt and tie, hat and waistcoat with watch-chain. To the right is a lovely lath-house partially covered by a climbing plant in flower. Behind the nursery are the Collingwood Swimming Baths, and in the distance can be seen the Abbotsford Brewery which operated in Church Street near the Yarra from 1904 when it was owned by the Melbourne Co-operative Brewery Company. In 1909 this company was absorbed by Carlton and United, as were many of the individually owned breweries which operated in Collingwood in the nineteenth century.
