Description: Size: 150 x 200 mm In the foreground can be seen part of the Town Hall roof and the vacant land on which the Church of Christ would be built in 1889. To the left of this space are market gardens and beyond these is Liverpool Street which was to make way for the railway line in 1900. In Gipps Street is the Laird O'Cockpen Hotel on the corner of Henry Street, and W. Lynch's family grocer. In Raphael Street the Caulfield Arms Hotel is just visible. The houses on the east side of Russell were also to be demolished to make way for the railway line. The house on the corner of Gipps Street and Russell Street was the residence of John Pope, a cab proprietor, and two of his cabs can be seen in a large shed behind the house.
