Flood in Gipps Street

Flood in Gipps Street

ID: 9107
Copyright: Image held by Beard family
Org ID: CL PIC 259

Description: Size: 127 x 178 mm Gipps Street, photographed from the Hoddle Street intersection and looking towards Wellington Street, is awash with water. Many of the shops and houses to be seen in this photo, as well as the Gipps Street Methodist Church in the distance, have since been replaced by factories. Two of the buildings on the left can still be seen today, the bakery and one of the single-fronted houses next door. Although Godfred Lauer still has his name in huge letters on the side of the two-storey shop, the name on the verandah is H. Watts.
