Description: Size: 143 x 198 mm A group of about 60 boys from St. Joseph's in Nicholson Street, Abbotsford (which became a Technical School in 1930 but was a boys' school from 1893 until 1929). It is likely that the pool is the Collingwood Baths, built in the 1890s in Marine Parade just up from Nicholson Street. Most of the boys wear trunks but quite a few are still wearing singlet-topped costumes and several have horizontally-striped knee length trunks. An elderly man in waistcoat and cap guides the swimmers with a rod held over the water while an athletic young man gives instruction to the boys. A corrugated iron shelter shed can be seen at the back.
