Copyright: Image held by Royal Historical Society of Victoria
Org ID: CL PIC 572

Description: John Dight owned Dight's Mill (on Dight's Falls) and his house was nearby. He owned a large area of land (known as Dight's Paddock) between the Yarra, Hoddle St and Johnston Street, which remained in the family's hands until 1878, after which it was subdivided. The photo shows a brick house with a return verandah supported on double timber posts. The roof is slate but a section at the back has a shingle roof. The garden is well established with a eucalypt, several Norfolk Island pines, climbers on the verandah posts and various shrubs and perennials. The area in front of the house is lawn or gravel.
