Woolwashing on the Yarra

1870 Woolwashing on the Yarra

ID: 9450
Photographer: Reid, G. R.
Copyright: Image held by Royal Historical Society of Victoria
Org ID: CL PIC 579

Description: A number of buildings cover the slopes leading to the Yarra, although the expected view of the wool scouring in the river itself is obscured by a curve in the bank. This appears to be Charles Nettleton's business although the caption describes it as 'between the Old Church Street Bridge and the Convent Willows'. If this refers to the Convent of the Good Shepherd either the caption is wrong or it is a different woolwashing establishment.
