Description: James Tonini's Engineers Arms Hotel at 63 or 65 Johnston Street, a few doors west of Wellington Street. It was also known as the Limerick Castle Hotel for a brief period between the date of this photo and being de-licensed in 1914. A large group of people are posed on the footpath and a group of children are seated on the kerb. The men sport a wide variety of headwear ranging from straw boaters to a digger's slouch hat. James Tonini is the man standing in the doorway with his thumbs tucked into his waistcoat. Immediately behind him is his wife nee Catherine Donnelly. Incorporated into the building is James Tonini's hairdresser and tobacconist. This business continued into the 30s or 40s and was run by Tonini's sister Jane Raynes and brother-in-law Jim Raynes.
