Description: Size: 214 x 289 mm Looking east from Hoddle Street and showing the considerable foundation work already done. A winch has lowered the foundation stones into place and about twenty official-looking men are posed for the camera, with a similar number of workmen. Job Stanton laid the foundation stone. On the footpath are a number of onlookers, including quite a few boys and one dog. Everybody wears a hat. In the background are houses in Park Street and a scattering of other houses; this part of Abbotsford was still sparsely settled due to drainage problems. The selection of this site for the town hall provided a fillip to further development in the area.
