Description: Size: 134 x 190 mm (oval) A winch and tackle supports the foundation stone which reads 'This stone was laid on March 13th 1909 by Cr. William Rain, J.P., Chairman of the Victoria Park Committee. City Councillors: H. Evans, Mayor, E. Wilkins, J.P., J. Gahan, J.P., C.W.S. Aumont, J.P., J. Coon, M.H.R., A.C. Wright, B. Crellin, C.O. A number of men, presumably the aforementioned councillors, stand on a rough wooden platform fenced off by a rope. They wear suits, high-buttoned waistcoats, watch-chains and hats, including bowler hats, top hats and straw boaters. Several wear frock-coats, indicating the formality of the occasion. Most have moustaches and several have trimmed beards. In the foreground spectators, including a number of boys, turn their heads towards the camera. This occasion was reportedly accompanied by various festivities, including a man being shot from a cannon and landing in Roseneath Street.
