Description: Image held by Fitzroy Library. Known as 'The Retreat'. Survey classification in 9-15 August, 1970 described the property as 'good brick'. A poster in the window 'This house not in sale to the Housing Commission'. Taken within the block Church Street-Rae Street- Nicholson Street. Targeted by Housing Commission, Victoria for broadscale demolition and construction of highrise apartment blocks. This was opposed by residents, both tenants and owners and factories. This campaign was a turning point in public housing policy and practice in Victoria.
