Description: Image held at Richmond Library. A formal portrait of Marjorie Oke who was born Marjorie Bennett at the Richmond Baths in 1911 (her father was the manager), and lived there for much of her childhood. She became a community worker and campaigner for women and indigenous Australians. According to the information accompanying the photograph: 'This photograph was taken for her candidacy for the ALP St Kilda, 1943. It was advertised in cinemas and on campaign literature. At the time she was shop steward at the AJC Jam factory. She was unsuccessful in her bid for election and, along with others, was later expelled from the party for opposing 'the dead hand' later called 'the movement'.'
