Description: Image held at Richmond Library. The photograph, published in the Herald newspaper, shows a crowd of women shoppers at the sales tables in the store, possibly the fabric department. Initially a draper's store, the business was purchased by Dimelow and Gaylard in 1900. Four years later, with a change of ownership, it became Dimmeys, the nickname used by local shoppers. The original building burnt down in 1906, the clock tower was built in 1914 - 15 and the copper dome replaced a ruby ball in 1939. For further information consult local history files RFC 505 and RFC 507.
