Description: Image held at Richmond Library. Girls are posed for the photograph standing in three rows and seated in the front row. Richmond Central State School opened in 1872 in rooms in the Richmond Town Hall. By 1877 the new building in Gleadell St was ready. Over 750 children were then attending. The school closed in 1987. Information accompanying the photograph reads: 'About 1900. Sixth grade girls at what is now the Highett St. Primary school'. For further information consult local history file RFC 73 and 'Vision and realisation: a centenary history of state education in Victoria'.
