Description: Image held at Richmond Library. The photograph shows Swan St and the Swan St shops from a western angle, closed railway gates with horses and carriages on either side, a signal box, and railway lines running to the east and south. According to the information accompanying the image: 'About 1884. The Swan St. railway crossing. J. Sanderson's building is still standing. The line on the right went to the Cremorne Gardens. It is now the Sandringham line. The old post office stands next to Sanderson's building, on the site occupied by the signal box. In the 1850's, before the railway line was completed, there was a temporary station known as Punt Rd. station, on the Melbourne side of Hoddle St. The new Richmond station was known for a while as Punt Rd. station even after the site was moved.'
