Description: Image held at Richmond Library. In the foreground, two boys are on top of the diving board and another has just jumped off - there is a large splash of water. In the background, the edges of the pool, and possibly the shallow end, are crowded with swimmers, which given that there was segregated swimming, must be boys. When the Richmond Baths opened in 1897 they were the largest in Victoria and among the finest, and Richmond acquired a reputation as one of theswimming centres of Victoria. The main reason the Council built the baths was concern at the number of people who drowned in the river.
