Description: Image held at Richmond library. This picture shows 'Directly' winning the Hawthorn Handicap, ridden by T. Healy, owned and trained by W Coultas. A large crowd is watching the race. In the background the Wertheim piano factory and its chimney are clearly visible (the complex is now used by Channel 9). The Richmond Racecourse, run by John Wren's Victorian Trotting and Racing Association, was situated where Tudor St is now. In 1941 it was turned into Richmond's first public housing estate.
